Merry Christmas! Now pay your taxes!
This is the terrible message we are hearing from Missouri lawmakers.
Historic levels of inflation are battering the most vulnerable Missouri residents.
Seniors, the elderly, the working poor and those on fixed incomes are being squeezed as the every day cost of living skyrockets.
The costs of food, housing, energy, vehicles, childcare - its enough to challenge every family.
But that isn't the only thing skyrocketing - so are Missouri taxes taken from residents.
- The Missouri 2022 fiscal year general revenue balance
was nearly $4.9 billion — more than double the previous record set last year
- The state treasury is bulging with more than $6 billion in surplus cash
- The state budget is over $49 billion, a record for spending
That we are seeing tax revenues explode as residents look for ways to pay the bills is an injustice.
You should only have to pay for your property once!
You have heard the stories - many residents can't afford to stay in the homes they purchased due to the skyrocketing taxes. Many people have to sell their homes and relocate.
Despite large Republican majorities, Missouri has the third highest rates of property taxes in the country.
Missouri property taxes are extreme and regressive. How are people supposed to afford a home, build wealth and retire when we are squeezed by taxes?
I am writing you today to demand that you vote to repeal Missouri's property taxes.
Our state has a spending problem, not a revenue problem.
We are trying to afford Christmas presents for our family. Due to Missouri's current tax laws, this December you are giving us oppressive property tax bills.
I
am
disappointed that despite Republican majorities in Missouri, you still
continue to allow for this oppressive tax. Why do we vote for
Republicans if they won't support working families?
Please support Senator Bill Eigel's efforts to repeal these oppressive property taxes by supporting Senate Bill 8!
I look forward to your response.
